Many of Canberra's hotels, guest houses and hostels are often fully booked, especially during large festivals and events in Canberra and surrounding areas of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Hotel reservations in Canberra may be necessary several weeks in advance during the busiest peak seasons.

A number of Canberra's hotels are historic Victorian buildings in their own right, dating back more than 150 years. Some of the most inexpensive mid-range Canberra accommodation has shared bathrooms or fairly small rooms at the top of the hotel, although there are numerous hotels close to Canberra city centre with well-presented en-suite bathrooms, which only cost a little more and are still reasonably priced.

Bungendore, a small town which is around 35 km / 22 miles from central Canberra, has several outstanding luxury hotels, close to scenic vineyards and wineries.
